Dr. Serene is a Canadian children's book author with a passion for stories that bring families and communities together. A hard-working mother and lifelong reader, she writes picture books centred on kindness, curiosity, and the warmth of shared celebrations.
Her debut picture book, Countdown to Eid, was born from watching her own children's excitement in the days before Eid al-Fitr — the moon-watching, the baking, the anticipation that builds with every passing hour. She wanted to capture that feeling in a story other families could share.
Dr. Serene writes in rhythmic, repeatable language designed for read-alouds. Her stories feature themes of helping at home, participating in community, and celebrating the big days that bring us together. She believes every child deserves to see their own celebrations reflected in the books on their library shelf.
She publishes through Sirocco Publishing, an independent Canadian publisher she founded to bring diverse voices and joyful stories to young readers.
